Em cima das árvores, embaixo das folhas secas
The Little Monkey is the first photographic essay of the O Nata project, introducing a childlike entity who guides us through a vibrant, dreamlike forest. Blending playfulness and mystery, the work explores the fading spirit of childhood, the search for lost innocence, and the emotional landscapes we carry within. The forest becomes a metaphor for the unconscious—a space of wonder, memory, and quiet longing.

Em cima das árvores, embaixo das folhas secas
This essay marks the beginning of the photographic explorations within the O Nata project.
It portrays The Little Monkey, a childlike entity.
What sets this series apart from the other Nata works is the way its universe is brought to life: the space becomes tangible, filled with more elements and a richer palette of vibrant, saturated colors. It is no less a dreamlike delirium, but here it reveals itself as playful and inviting—a dream in which one is guided through the forest by a child in red.
Its title suggests a search for something intangible—a personal quest, a longing for simple sweetness, for a way of being, or perhaps a search for the character herself: the image of an unreachable childhood. In this story, the character shifts—at times wary, at times open to the stranger who approaches. She allows herself to play, is accompanied by the forest, and eventually reveals the path to that which is sought.
She reinterprets a mood, even a way of being, that fades day by day—something we subtly abandon until it slips beyond reach. The girl is that part of us that has always been and always will be there, though now buried, somewhere we can no longer feel or be with her. She is the personality we sometimes rediscover through our emotional connections with others. The forest embodies this unconscious place where we hide our questions, where fears and fantasies dwell.
This essay speaks partly of a return to childhood—its energy, its presence—and partly of the attempt to reclaim the spirit of childhood that fades as we grow older.
